About[]
Listen to the Clock is one of those games you devote a substantial amount of time in. Those kind of games where you can't do anything else except for keep yourself alive by hydrating, eating, etc.
Other games fall into the previously stated category, like 11 Miles and others...
Therefore, it isn't recommended for you to play any of these games. Simply for your own safety and sanity (which I guess counts as safety).
This game isn't known to have a historical upbringing nor origination. It isn't like The Snowman Ritual, Sweet Tooth, or Hide and Go Seek Alone. All of the games I just listed originated from a place (Sweet Tooth came from Russia, Hide and Go Seek Alone came from Japan, etc).
This game originated from The Creepypasta Wiki and gained a bit of traction.
This story isn't grounded in folklore nor urban legends, therefore, is more so in the realm of made-up stories. So it'd be better to think of 'Player' as more of a protagonist than an actual real person. I'm just making things more fun.
The game[]
Requirements[]
- One person, hence why 'Player' isn't plural...
- An analog clock.
- A room devoid of windows.
- A candle.
- Lighter or matches.
Instructions[]
The overture[]
Wait for the right weather. Temperature doesn't matter here (It can be any temperature outside). The weather should be mild and calm.
Do not try to play the game with rain, storms, snow, etc.
When the correct weather has occurred, before you can begin the game, cancel all plans, appointments, and meetings that were due in 24 hours.
Turn off your phone. If you have a landline, unplug it.
Bring the analog clock, candle, and matches/lighter with you to the windowless room. Put the candle somewhere safe, so it's not knocked over or gets caught on anything nearby. Now, sit quietly for a moment and make sure you can hear the ticking of the clock.
If there are lights in the room, this is a ritual - Why are they still on? Turn them off.
Now, light the candle. The candle should be the only light source in the room.
Sit and think for a moment. You have to be sure. Absolutely, positively sure you want to go through with this.
Hypothetically, you do. Only so I didn't write this for nothing, writing this feels like it's taking longer than the actual game itself.
When you realize you're serious about this, you may begin. Close the door (if it's still open).
The first 23 hours[]
Hour 1[]
Sit down and get comfortable. Listen intently to the clock. Now, wait. It's hour one, the first hour. Your chance to cancel the ritual.
Hour 2[]
Think about it. Do you want to stop it?
Hour 3[]
After this, you get no more chances.
Hour 4[]
Alright, you're screwed. On hour 4, the door to your windowless room will lock, even if it did not have a lock, trapping you in. Do not attempt to unlock it, even then, you couldn't even if you tried. It'll only cause anxiety.
You can't turn back. Stay.
Hour 5[]
You might feel anxious, get sweaty, and start to feel like someone is watching you. Even if it's true, remain calm.
Hour 6[]
Okay, hour six. You might begin to hear noises coming from somewhere else in the house. Do not check the lock on the door. Remain calm.
Hour 7[]
You might fall asleep. When you do, when you dream, enjoy them, they'll be the best you'll ever have.
Hour 8[]
If you fell asleep on hour 7, enjoy the joy that came from your dreams while it lasts.
Hour 9[]
You will start to get absurd amounts of restless energy. Do not do anything foolish.
Hour 10[]
You will begin to hear screaming coming from elsewhere in the house. Do not cover your ears. Remain calm.
Hour 11[]
The candle might go out. Do not light it again. Sit in the darkness.
Hour 12[]
The candle may light itself. Sit there.
Hour 13[]
You may fall asleep. You'll have the most horrid and grotesque nightmares. They'll be your worst.
Hour 14[]
If you fell asleep during hour 13, you will sit with the evanescent dread and despair of which came from your formerly mentioned nightmares.
Hour 15[]
You may hear the voice of a stranger. Do not be alarmed. You can ask the voice any questions you have about your life. It will answer. Note and remember any and all responses coming from the voice, even if they don't seem to make sense, or you don't understand them.
Hour 16[]
You might hear the voice of your parents/parent talking. They will ask you questions about yourself. Do not refuse to answer. Answer all questions truthfully; Do not lie, he will know if you lie. Answer, even if it's a truth you're ashamed of.
Hour 17[]
You might hear the voice of the most important man in your life speaking to you. If you do, answer all questions he will have for you about your relationships. Do not refuse to answer. Answer all questions truthfully; Do not lie, they will know if you lie. Answer, even if it's a truth you're ashamed of.
Hour 18[]
You might hear the voice of the most important woman in your life speaking to you. If you do, answer all questions she will have for you about your relationship. Do not refuse to answer. Answer all questions truthfully; Do not lie, she will know if you lie. Answer, even if it's a truth you're ashamed of.
Hour 19[]
You might hear your own voice speaking to you. If you do, listen to it. Listen to what you have to say about you to you... Tonguetwister...
Listen to it, even if it's the most painful conversation you've ever had and ever will.
Hour 20[]
You might find yourself with a feeling of crushing self-loathing. Do not do anything rash.
Hour 21[]
You might hear music. It will be unfathomably beautiful. Listen to it. Let it heal your body.
Hour 22[]
If you heard music during hour 21, the music will conclude. The flame of the candle might flicker through every color in the spectrum, and some that don't colors that aren't known to exist. Let it heal your soul.
Hour 23[]
If the candle light began flickering during hour 22, it will cease. You might begin to sing. Let yourself do so, don't be alarmed. Don't go against it.
The final hour[]
Hour 24[]
The final hour has occurred. Your body will start to grow heavy. If you were singing before, you will silence yourself. You might feel incapable of moving. Do not panic. Do not struggle.
You might hear the voice of a stranger, talking to you. It won't sound as if it's coming from around you; It will be extremely difficult to locate. But if you hear it, you'll be able to hear it clearly.
The voice will start to ask you questions. These questions will come one at a time throughout 10-minute intervals. You have to answer these questions truthfully and honestly.
Wait. Now, the voice will start to dissipate after a while. The weight on your body will suddenly lift. The door will then unlock.
Finished[]
Turn on the lights. Extinguish the candle. Leave the room. Dismantle the analog clock.
Additional notes[]
- We do not advise you to play this game if you have had or have a history with self-harm or suicidal thoughts or tendencies.
- Do not play this game if you have been diagnosed (preferably professionally) with PTSD, anxiety, depression, or any other similar disorders and conditions.
- Do not play this game while under the influence of substances like alcohol, nicotine, etc.
More about required supplies[]
The clock has to be an analog clock specifically. The clock's ticking of its second hand must be audible. You aren't allowed to use a mobile phone's clock, a digital clock, nor an online representation of an analog clock. If your clock is battery-powered. Don't worry. You don't need to bring extra batteries.
The room can be of any size or dimensions, therefore, any interior room will be fine and equally as effective. Although, the room needs to be somewhere you are unlikely to be disturbed.
There are no requirements for the candle, although it's recommended that it should be large, sturdy, and scentless.
You can bring anything you like into the room with you in order to make your stay more comfortable, such as pillows, blankets, a stuffed toy... Really anything. It's suggested you bring them in during the first three hours or before in order to get settled with them. You're going through too much to worry about fluffing your pillow.
